Thursday June 30th

There was a small craft advisory out this morning so we didn't leave set out early. The man with the trimaran stopped by and brought some donuts. We left about 8 am and headed out the river, we had to wait and let a gigantic fuel barge out the narrow entrance first. We started heading out Long Island Sound and it was rough with the wind blowing against us. We headed out for a while with the mainsail up but we were making poor progress and getting tossed around. Tried heading towards Clinton but it wasn't any better. Poor Mr. Pooh got seasick again. We decided to go back as it would be a good 8-10 hours before we could reach port on Long Island. We were depressed and fed up with the weather. We anchored in the same spot and the wind started blowing very strong. We dragged anchor so had to reset them. Took a walk up town to try and cheer ourselves up- bought some beer, summer squash, clothes pegs and a latch for my door. Had left over spaghetti sauce, potatoes and summer squash for supper. We were thinking of traveling at night as there was supposed to be a bright full moon but it clouded over and thunderstorms were forecast. We hope it calms down so we can get out of here and through New York and into the Island Waterway. Seems to be taking forever with winds against us all the time.
